Vaughan Sivell is a Writer, Producer and CEO of Western Edge Pictures, he founded the company in 2008. His first feature film, “Third Star“, which he wrote and produced, closed the Edinburgh Film Festival in 2010 and subsequently screened at festivals all over the world – reaching Seattle, Sydney, Sao Paolo and Taiwan to name but a few. It was released theatrically and on DVD in the UK and the US in 2011 – gathering a passionate following in the process.
Vaughan grew up in West Wales and had decided by the age of 10 that he was going to make films. He had an agent by 13 and 10 years of acting experience, including a classical theatre training, by the time he was 23.
He continued performing throughout his twenties but was fast developing his writing career alongside – contributing to comedy material at first, then full scripts for the principle UK broadcasters and various major independent producers. He also worked on set in almost every department of production in order to learn as much about how a film set works as possible.
After a stint in L.A., Vaughan returned to London with a commission to develop a long running drama for the BBC. He concentrated on writing full time and signed to Casarotto Ramsay Associates in London and to Anonymous Content in LA. Both agencies are now key partners in the development of the Western Edge slate.
The “Third Star” script was highly placed on the prestigious Britlist in 2008 and in 2010 was nominated for a BAFTA Cymru. The same year Vaughan produced his first play – the critically acclaimed “Eigengrau” which soon transferred to “Brits off Broadway” after its sell out run at the Bush Theatre.
Vaughan is a hands-on producer, writer and ambassador for Western Edge. In raising profile for the company and its projects he has contributed to programs for Newsnight, the global lecture series Pecha Kucha 20×20, Wales Week in NYC for the Welsh Assembly and uncountable Q&A’s in the UK and abroad. 2011 saw the launch of his increasingly popular blog Mug 7 – the production diaries of Third Star.. and everything that comes next… www.mug7.com
